German Dance Archive Cologne (Deutsches Tanzarchiv Köln - DTK)
The German Dance Archive Cologne (Deutsches Tanzarchiv Köln - DTK) was founded in 1985 by the Cultural Foundation of the Stadtsparkasse Cologne in cooperation with the City of Cologne after the acquisition of Kurt Peters' dance collection, which he began in 1948. It was expanded into an information, documentation, and research center for dance with an attached museum area and made accessible to the public.
The DTK's holdings comprise over 400 bequests and pre-bequests, numerous institution-related collections, and over 170,000 photographs and 117,000 original negatives and slides. The archive also includes a collection of reviews with over 600,000 newspaper clippings, around 30,000 program booklets, an art collection, and a costume and poster collection. The library has a reference collection of 13,000 titles, 85 current specialist journals, and 19,000 issues in its total journal collection. The reference video library comprises over 6,500 films from various dance film categories (dance films, musicals, documentaries, studio and stage recordings).
Examples of the DTK's estate and collection holdings include the archives of Fritz and Elisabeth Böhme, Valeska Gert, Yvonne Georgi, Krisztina Horváth, Dore Hoyer, Kurt Jooss, Harald Kreutzberg, Vera Skoronel, Daniel Goldin, and Mary Wigman.
