German Dance Film Institute Bremen

The German Dance Film Institute Bremen (TAFI) was founded in 1988. The main tasks of the TAFI lie in archiving and reconstruction of audio-visual materials about dance as well as the film documentation of current productions (including Susanne Linka, Reinhild Hoffmann). Every year, between 40 and 60 pieces are recorded. In addition to this, the TAFI offers technical support to choreographers and dancers. The collection includes unique, audio-visual dance documentations from the 1960’s. Among major documentations are those of Reinhild Hoffmann, Johann Kresnik, Susanne Linke, the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Staatstheater Saarbrücken, the Stuttgarter Ballett as well as Tanzhaus NRW, Düsseldorf. Over 28,000 audio-visual documents with a total length of 1.8 million minutes are archived in the TAFI. Half of the collection consists of transmittable video material. The artefacts are listed in an accessible database and in various output forms in MySQL database formats with currently 41,000 entries in the area of dance, from film material, individuals’ profiles and institutions to stage works.
